I am not familiar with any articles against service learning but I may be
able to guide you to a source that would have some.
There is a new movement popping up across campus (well, it isn't really new
we are just seeing a lot more of it these days in response to the national
service effort). There is a national student group called the "Objectivist
Club". Based heavily on the writings of Ann Rand and Objectivist
philosophy, they believe (very roughly stated)that people should only be
concerned with themselves, serving others is really only a way to make
yourself feel better, and no one should make you feel guilty or obligated
to serve others. A chapter is trying to start at Rice but they can't find
a faculty sponsor. Other than that, I don't know too much about them.

can access a lot of information from Ann Rand's page.
