CITY YEAR
Chicago
Job Description

SERVICE LEADER
City Year is a national service program for young adults aged 17-24. City
Year provides critically needed community services while promoting the
personal development of young people from diverse backgrounds. City Year
began in Boston and has expanded nationally to Chicago, Illinois; Cleveland,
Ohio; Columbia, South Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; Providence, Rhode Island; San
Antonio, Texas; and San Jose, California; with our newest site --
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- opening in the Fall of 1997.

City Year consists of teams of young adults who make a commitment to ten
months of full-time community service. Each team consists of 8-12 "Corps

community-based organizations. City Year teams develop and manage service
projects such as leading adolescents in community service programs,
developing structured volunteer programming, renovating playgrounds,
designing and implementing after-school programs and more. Through their term
of service, academies and Leadership Development Days, corps members
participate in a variety of learning environments designed to teach
professional skills and promote multicultural awareness, leadership,
citizenship, and a better understanding of the communities City Year serves.

City Year's SERVICE LEADERS have excellent leadership and team building
skills and are capable of motivating, guiding, and communicating well with
young people. SERVICE LEADERS manage, coach and lead teams of corps members
through the City Year Program and are ultimately accountable for the service
impact and leadership development of 8-12 corps members. SERVICE LEADERS
