Position Description

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, OREGON CAMPUS COMPACT
Oregon Campus Compact (ORCC) seeks an experienced and dynamic leader,
dedicated to advancing the civic purposes of education in order to build
strong communities and to develop engaged citizens for the 21st Century.
ORCC is an organization of Oregon college and university presidents who are
dedicated to enhancing personal and social responsibility and citizenship by
all members of the academic community while reinvigorating higher education'
s concern for improving the quality of life in our society.  ORCC, begun in
1996 and now grown to ten members, is an affiliate of the (national) Campus
Compact.  Member institutions include private and public colleges,
universities and community colleges throughout Oregon.  The purpose of ORCC
is to: 1) facilitate collaboration between colleges and universities and
their communities; 2) promote community service and service-learning as
integral components of higher education; 3) link ORCC and member
institutions with other state, regional, and national organizations for
advocacy and collaboration on initiatives; 4) promote inter-campus
cooperation and networking among faculty, students, and administrators to
share expertise on service-learning courses and community engagement; 5)
leverage funding from a variety of sources for member institutions to
support their work with the community.

Responsibilities:
The Executive Director reports to the college or university president
serving as ORCC President and is supported and advised by the ORCC Steering
Committee.  The Executive Director is the primary administrator for ORCC.

The Executive Director will:
· Create an effective organization that is responsive to current and
emergent issues identified by member campuses or the service-learning field.
Cultivate and promote the long-range vision and mission of ORCC.
· Secure funding, from public and private sources, to support the
advancement of community-campus engagement.
· Manage grants, including developing guidelines and dissemination
procedures for Requests for Proposals (RFPs), write reports, and disseminate
outcomes regionally and nationally.
· Promote the organization through news media, ORCC quarterly newsletter,
reports, member campus publications, and electronic listserves, websites and
databases.
· Foster growth of the organization through increased membership and
connection to other state, regional and national organizations.  Maintain
all aspects of membership services, including recruitment materials and a
membership directory.  Manage organizational budget, collect fees and dues
and provide the Board with annual or appropriate reports, provide leadership
to staff.
· Serve as a link for information and resources between (national) Campus
Compact and ORCC member institutions.  Facilitate networking among member
campuses and convene meetings of the presidents, executive council and other
campus/community constituencies.
· Provide resources and assistance to member institutions in their
development as engaged campuses and with their service-learning courses and
service programs. Collect and distribute program model information on member
campuses.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred, with 3-5 years
experience linking higher education with community in ways that promote
learning and the common good. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal
communications skills required. Demonstrated success in organizational and
fiscal management, public relations, and resource development, including
grant writing required. Ability to build and implement a collective vision,
demonstration of entrepreneurial spirit, and flexibility to travel required.

Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of community
issues, non-profit management and higher education academic systems, and be
able to work effectively and cooperatively with diverse constituencies,
including agenda setting, meeting facilitation and follow up.

development; and an understanding of service-learning and other civic
engagement initiatives.
