Hi,
I enjoyed the compilation of quotes. One
of the quotes on the list, though, appears to be incorrectly
attributed. It is the one that reads,
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that
we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkenss that
most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who I am to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child
of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing
enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure
around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within
us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own
light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the
same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically
liberates others.
It was attributed to Nelson Mandela in 1994. However, I have seen
it attributed to Marianne Willamson from her book, A Return to Love,
published by Harper Collins in 1992. Although I have not actually
seen the book, I did find a Web site that published Mandela's speech, and
the quote isn't in the speech, at least as it is published on the
Web. In addition, I found two Web sites specifically mentioning
that the quote is, in fact, from Ms. Williamson's book but often
attributed incorrectly to Mandela. Maybe there is someone out there
who can help clear up the confusion.
Thanks again for the compilation of quotes. As the quote above is
one that I especially like, I hope we can get to the bottom of its
source. I only sent this email to you. If you think it's
worth pursuing, maybe you could forward it to the list.
