Job Description

SERVICE LEARNING COORDINATOR

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 
The Service Learning Coordinator energizes, organizes, and facilitates
service learning on the college. This person works with students,
faculty, staff, and community agencies, and promotes both credit and
non-credit community-based learning.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 
Reports directly to the Director of Special Programs. Service learning
falls under the academic sector of the college. 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervises a VISTA worker serving as Partnerships Facilitator, and in
future possibly one or more work-study students. The Coordinator may
also train and supervise mentors in one of the college's after-school
programs.

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
* recruits students for service learning and related opportunities
* visits service-learning classes to explain procedures and placements
* helps students select appropriate sites; assists with paperwork and
process
* works closely with faculty to monitor progress and ensure that
quality  service and learning take place
* works with Director of Special Programs and Faculty S-L Coordinator
to recruit new faculty and add new courses to the service learning
roster
* supports as appropriate new projects, grant proposals, community
outreach and development initiatives
* presents at workshops and conferences on innovative developments
here
* manages recognition events and other reinforcement activities
* participates in teams and committees doing planning for the future
and extension of service learning at BCC
* with and through the Partnerships Facilitator, develops strong and
varied service learning opportunities for students
* other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree required, masters preferred. Enthusiasm for and
familiarity with service learning. Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills. Ability to work in a higher education setting.
Sensitivity to current issues of diversity.

COMPENSATION: $36,558 base,  with full benefits. Grant funded.
