Hello Joan and other SL list colleagues,

I am the Director of Outreach at COOL (Campus Outreach Opportunity League)
where the original Into the Streets program was founded and designed in the
early 1990's.

Very briefly, Into the Streets is about training large numbers of student
leaders; forging powerful coalitions between diverse campus, community and
national organizations; and fostering a new purpose and insight in the
college community service movment. It is a program designed to introduce
more students to thoughtful community service and to provide a learning
experience that will challenge participants to volunteer on a regular basis.

COOL has published an updated millenium edition of the "Into the Streets
Organizing Manual" available for sale. It is a 91 page comprehensive binder
of information that incorporates the 5 Critical Elements of Quality Comunity
Service, also developed by COOL. We are happy to consult with campuses on
how to strengthen service programs, and also to introduce and deliver other
training programs that could be helpful.

My contact info is below, I would welcome talking with anyone about how COOL
could be of service.
