New Position Announcement

Job Title:

Assistant Director of Service Learning


Job Summary:

The Assistant Director for Service Learning will be responsible for internal
and external university communication and activities regarding
service-learning.  The internal responsibilities include: strengthening
service efforts for student organizations and individual students; assisting
students to link service to academic and career goals; supervising the
community service work-study program; and developing programs and materials
to foster and integrate service-learning among students, faculty and staff.
Externally, the Assistant Director will serve as a liaison between the
Center and not-for-profit agencies and schools.

Essential Functions:
1.      Assist in the development of programs to build skills of students
involved in community service and civic engagement.
2.      Work with a graduate assistant to train and supervise student leaders in
the Community Service Work-Study Program.
3.      Supervise student and graduate student staff.
4.      Maintain and develop relationships with local agencies and schools.
5.      Collaborate with departments in Student Development to enhance 
university
outreach.
6.      Collaborate with Director in the development and evaluation of 
curricular
service-learning.
7.      Gather, distribute and conduct research on service-learning methods and
outcomes.
8.      Keep abreast of regional and national organizations and trends related 
to
service-learning.

Marginal Functions:
1.      Help educate the university community about service-learning concepts 
and
methodology.
2.      Conduct on-site visits where students are placed.
3.      Investigate potential grant funding sources.
4.      Provide referrals to the University community on city resources.
5.      Instruct a section of ND0101 Personal and Academic Development.
6.      Serve on University committees as appropriate.


Reporting Relationship:
Reports to the Director of Service Learning

Primary Requirements:
1.      Master’s degree in student personnel, counseling, or related field
preferred, or Bachelors degree and equivalent experience.
2.      Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be 
computer
literate.
3.      A demonstrated commitment to community service work and to the
development of college students is required.
4.      Familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching is a benefit.

Physical Requirements of the Job:
Requires frequent walking, climbing stairs, appropriate manual dexterity to
type and write.  Must be able and willing to operate a motor vehicle and a
15-passenger van.

Working Environment:
Requires frequent contact with students, faculty, staff, community agency
personnel and community members.  A willingness to work in a Marianist
environment and support the Marianist mission is essential.  The office
environment is face paced and student centered.

Compensation:
Competitive salary and generous benefits.  This is not a grant-funded
position.
