Dear Service-Learning Colleagues,

Questions about service-learning evaluation are frequently posted on this
listserv. "Methods and Strategies for Assessing Service-Learning in
the Health Professions" is a 75-page report based on the methods and
tools used to evaluate the Health Professions Schools in Service to the
Nation Program, a national demonstration program of service-learning in
the health professions. The report's lead authors, Sherril Gelmon and
Barbara Holland, are well known to the SL field.

Workbook sections include:
*why do assessment?
*a framework for evaluation
*key factors in evaluation of service-learning
*strategies and methods for evaluating students, faculty, community
partners and the academic institution
*tools for evaluating these key stakeholders, including copies of survey
instruments, focus group protocols and reflection exercises

As a service-learning advocate, we believe you will be pleased with the
workbook and hope you will find it to be a practical resource for
evaluating and improving your service-learning programs.

Copies are available from our office for $12 each, including postage ($15
for non-members). You may obtain the order form from our fax-on-demand
service at 1-888-267-9183, document #101. A companion report, "Health
Professions Schools in Service to the Nation 1996-1998 Final Evaluation
Report" is also available.

If you have any comments or questions, please call 415-476-7081. We are
particularly interested in hearing about your experiences in using the
workbook to design or strengthen your evaluation efforts, and hearing
about what you learned.

Thank you.
