P. Chantrill should take a look at the history of the Democratic Party and 
the two-party system in general.  Both the Democrats and Republicans depend 
on financing from big business.  Both use one or another kind of populist 
rhetoric to cover their defense of the privileges of wealth.  The examples on 
both sides are too numerous to list.  A good source on this is A People's 
History of the United States by Howard Zinn, who delivered a wonderful 
keynote address at the 2000 National Service-Learning Conference in 
Providence.
