Policy fellowships for Hispanic undergraduates
02 January 2004 16:37 UTC
Dear SL colleagues,
Happy new year!
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the nation's leading
bi-partisan Hispanic educational organization, has made available
applications for its prestigious 2004 Congressional Summer Internship,
2004-05 Public Policy Fellowship and 2004 Scholarship Awards benefiting
Latino youth.
The applications can be accessed online by visiting www.chciyouth.org or by
contacting the Institute at 1-800.EXCEL.DC. Application deadlines are
January 31, 2004 for the internship; March 1, 2004 for the fellowship; and
April 15, 2004 for the scholarship.
The Summer Internship Program selects 30 promising Latino undergraduates
for an eight-week internship in the nation's capital. While in Washington,
DC interns work in Congressional offices.
The Fellowship program offers up to 20 promising Latinos nationwide the
opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the national level in the public
policy area of their choice. The nine-month fellowship gives participants
the opportunity to work in such areas as international affairs, economic
development, education policy, housing or corporate affairs.
CHCI awards scholarships to Latino students from the fifty U.S. states and
Puerto Rico who have a history of performing public and/or community
service activities in their communities. Recipients receive a one-time
scholarship of $2,500 to attend a four-year or graduate-level academic
institution or $1,000 to attend a two-year community college.
CHCI, a non-profit and non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization, provides
educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students. The
CHCI Board of Directors is comprised of Hispanic Members of Congress,
non-profit leaders, and corporate executives. For more information on
CHCI, call 1-800-EXCEL DC or visit www.chci.org.
