Dear colleagues.
Berea College's new service learning initiative is one of the most unique in
the country, since it builds upon the college's longstanding traditions of
serving Appalachia and providing interracial education to students of limited
economic means. As its title states, the Center for Excellence in Learning
Through Service (CELTS) places service learning front and center. The
Coordinator will have primary responsibility for developing and sustaining the
partnerships among faculty, students, and community that make service learning
possible. This is a chance to participate in creating and institutionalizing
service learning in the context of a strong, campus-wide commitment. Thank you
for helping to spread the word, and direct any questions to me. Sincerely, Meta
Mendel-Reyes, CELTS Director and Associate Professor, Berea College,
meta_mendel-reyes@berea.edu.
