Director, Center for Community Service
Princeton University invites applications and nominations for the position of
director of the new Center for Community Service. The mission of the Center for
Community Service is to give concrete expression to the value that the
University assigns to community service as a component of its educational
mission. The director of the Center will be responsible for establishing a
coordinating agency for University/community/regional/national/and international
service initiatives. The director will work with existing campus service
organizations to provide opportunities for service learning, to identify needs,
to provide resources, and to create a centralized repository of information
concerning Princeton/community collaborations.

The director will be an exceptional person who, by virtue of his or her
educational background and breadth of experience in educational settings or in
community work, will have expertise in providing training,
building collaboration among the individuals who do outreach work, and
facilitating assessment of programs and initiatives. The director will take the
lead in establishing the Center (which itself is a new venture for Princeton
University), in creating connections among and facilitating the service work of
campus, alumni,
and community agencies, and in fulfilling Princeton's mission of service to this
nation and all nations. The director will report to the vice president for
campus life.

Requirements
The director will have a demonstrated capacity to lead community, staff, and
student partners in  focused community engagement; experience in coordinating a
broad range of responsibilities in a complex environment; understanding of urban
development issues and pedagogical approaches to training, and understanding of
diverse communities, shifting demographics, and language challenges. The
director will be an educator and administrator familiar with the dynamics of a
University community. The director must be able to work well with a variety of
constituents, including students and community members. The director must be
articulate, write well, and must have experience in budget preparation
and management and in developing grant proposals and fund-raising. A bachelor's
degree is required. An advanced degree preferred.
