ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Faculty Support and
Student Leadership of the Service Learning Institute (SLI), the
Coordinator of Community Partnerships is responsible for assisting
community partners, service learning faculty, and staff (including student
leaders in the University Service Advocate Program) in developing mutually
beneficial service learning partnerships.  Serves as a primary advocate
and communication source for service learning community partners to the
Service Learning Institute Staff and CSUMB community by being an active,
engaged presence in the community.  Works collaboratively as a member of
the Service Learning Institute team to carry out the CSUMB Vision and the
Service Learning Institute’s Philosophy, Mission and Institute-wide
programs and training.  Assists community partners and faculty in seeing
the possible linkages between their service activities and learning
objectives for students.  Facilitates and conducts meetings to assist
service learning faculty and community partners with developing
partnerships (e.g., site visits and Community-Faculty Exchanges). 
Coordinate events to assist service learning community partners and
faculty with connecting service learners with appropriate service
opportunities (e.g., the Service Learning Fair and Community Scans). 
Attends community meetings and events to expand the Service Learning
Institute’s knowledge concerning community-based service learning
opportunities.  Facilitates and provides leadership for the Community
Advisory Board which provides a forum for networking and sharing among
representatives of community organizations involved in service learning. 
Gathers and acts upon feedback from community partners on their
satisfaction with the service learning process.  Assists community
partners to become effective service learning partners by developing and
leading workshops on the service learning process.  Plan and implement
community partner training (e.g., the Service Learning Community Partner
Certification Workshop) and appreciation events (e.g., the Spotlight on
Service).  Develops and provides training for faculty and Service Learning
Institute staff (including student leaders in the University Service
Advocate Program) in identifying, forming, and maintaining appropriate
service learning community partnerships.

Supervises and mentors Community-based University Service Advocates; and
supervises, provides training for, and evaluates community-based student
leaders involved in the University Service Advocate Program, and assists
them to expand service learning connections for the organizations in which
they work.  Develops and manages budgets related to Community Partner
training and special events.  Updates and disseminates policies concerning
community partnerships and student placements (e.g., TB testing and
fingerprinting).  Manages paperwork, files and writes progress reports
related to responsibilities.  Contributes to the SLI Newsletter and other
media to share successes and developments in service learning community
partnerships.  Performs other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative partnerships between diverse
groups of people in a multicultural environment.  Commitment to
cultivating social responsibility, cultural awareness and an ethic of
civic engagement, both personally and professionally.  Demonstrated
ability in developing, facilitating and leading workshops, meetings and
training experiences.  Proven ability in planning, implementing and
managing budgets of special events.  Proven ability to work
collaboratively in a highly interactive environment.  Excellent
organizational, oral and written communication skills.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

BS or BA degree or equivalent education and two years community outreach
or partnership experience OR an Associate of Arts Degree and four years of
community outreach or partnership experience.


SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED:

Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with
this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above. 
Proven personal and professional experience in working effectively in and
with diverse communities.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual competency (English and Spanish preferred).  Knowledge of and
experience in living and working in the tri-county region (Monterey, San
Benito & Santa Cruz counties).  Highly desirable: Demonstrated
understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core
values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation,
multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional
excellence.  Experience working with a diverse and multicultural
population and performing community services; demonstrated technical
literacy.


SALARY: Commensurate with experience plus excellent paid benefits. This is
an exempt position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions
of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
