Parker and others:
I can respond for two-year colleges.
1. At least 31 percent of all community colleges -- that's about 350 of the
1,100 two-year colleges in the U.S. -- offer service learning. An additional
48 percent are interested in starting service learning programs.
2. The American Association of Community College's Service Learning
Clearinghouse has, in a database, contact names and program data for
those two-year colleges that offer service learning. For space reasons, I
won't list them all here, but we do know that colleges in at least 42 states
offer service learning.
3. Only 2 percent of community colleges require community service for
graduation.
These data, and more, are compiled in AACC's Survey Report SR-96-1,
"Service Learning and Community Colleges: Where We Are," based on a
1995 national survey of all two-year colleges. A new survey will be sent to
all community colleges in March to update the 1995 data. I'll be happy to
post the new results to this listserv sometime this summer.
If anyone reading this is interested in receiving a copy of the 12-page
survey report (complete with more than 30 charts and graphs), send your
complete mailing address directly to me -- ***do not reply to this listserv*** --
at grobinson@aacc.nche.edu or at the address below.
AACC's Clearinghouse is supported by a Learn and Serve America: Higher
Education grant from the Corporation for National Service. The
Clearinghouse also provides assistance and materials to community college
faculty, staff, and students who want to initiate or enhance service learning
on their campuses.

Where and how can I get national data on the following questions:
1. How many colleges (4 and 2 year) and universities offer service learning
to undergraduates?
2. What are the names of the institutions and where are they located?
3. What percentage or number require service for graduation?
Who can answer these questions or similar questions?
Thanks for the help.
