Just to update folks about my query about America Reads posted a week or
so ago--
I was surprised to find that the average number of work study placements
anticipated to fit into America Reads range from 30 to 75. I have been
working with American, Howard, and George Washington on ways to coodinate
our activities. Taken as whole, we are looking at recruiting placing,
training, and guiding the reflection of 550 students between the four of
us. I am wondering if any other schools out there are looking to place
100 or more tutors.
One of the big concerns that I have about America Reads is the need to
make sure that our existing tutoring efforts are not undermined by the
need to devote resources to cultivating a new kind of program-- one that
suits the particular needs of workstudy (10 to 15 hours of work as
opposed to 2-3 hours of volunteering).
Thanks for your responses so far.
