Re: your request for info on faculty promotion and tenure guidelines: I can't
give you anything yet, but --
We are in the first year of a 3-year FIPSE-funded project that involves "Tying
Faculty Retention to Student Learner Outcome." We are seeking to develop a
reward system for our new campus that will replace the traditional
promotion and tenure system.
As one of the founding principles of our campus is community service, it is
required of faculty, students, and staff. Along with the other specific student
learning outcomes they seek to accomplish, the faculty are expected to model
the community service ethic for students. A faculty member's ability to model
community service will be considered in his/her retention.
In addition, evidence of a community service ethic is one of the criteria we
use in hiring faculty. We will also provide training on integrating serv-lng
into our institutionšs learner-centered, interdisciplinary curricula.
Our students will be required to earn 6 community service learning semester
credits for graduation. This will include a one-credit course and 225 service
hours in approved projects.
