This discussion on reporting lines has been very interesting. I have a
unique position here at the University of Detroit Mercy - I report directly to
the VP for Academic Affairs and the VP for Student Affairs. This
resulted when a new department was created (Leadership Development
Institute) and I was hired as director.

I meet with them biweekly together and things have gone very smoothly
for the past year and a half. My office is located in an academic building
and my Community Service Coordinator is located in the commons
building of the residence halls. I believe that I have more credibility with
the faculty as a result of this reporting. I also have a great relationship
with faculty and am very accessible to them. My CSC works primarily
with students and is very accessible to them. I am considered one of the
Directors within Student Development and meet regularly with the VPSA
and Directors (Res Life, Student Life, Campus Ministry, Health Service...).

If anyone would like to ask me specific questions you may respond
directly to me or call me.
