A week ago I requested job descriptions for SL Center Directors. Below are
four that I compiled.

The Program Leader is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and
management of the North Campus "Center for Community Involvement."  This
Center is responsible for all service-learning and community service
activities on the campus, as well as the America Reads and America Counts
initiatives.  The Center also administers an AmeriCorps*VISTA program.  The
Leader works closely with hundreds of students, faculty, and community
partners and is responsible for promoting the ethic of service and
citizenship at the College.  The Leader represents the College frequently
with various community agencies/groups; identifies, builds relationships
with, and makes periodic site visits to community-based organizations;
assists faculty in selecting and developing appropriate service
opportunities for their courses; develops and implements a comprehensive
student orientation, training, and placement program; assists with the
development and implementation of the America Reads component of Federal
Work Study; conducts evaluation and assessment of Center activities;
prepares status reports; assists in development of reflection opportunities;
supervises student assistants, student ambassadors, and AmericorpsVISTA
members; counsels students interested in service; serves on college-wide
integrated management team providing overall direction for the college's
program; coordinates special events and performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of related
experience; Master's degree preferred.  Demonstrated commitment to public
and community service; strong interpersonal, organizational, and
administrative skills; demonstrated writing and speaking ability;
familiarity with service-learning or student development in an academic
environment, and demonstrated leadership experience.  Occasional evening and
weekend work is required.

Director of the Service Leadership Center

Qualifications:  (Minimum Requirements)

? Masters degree, eligible for faculty appointment in a discipline
? Prefer a minimum of three years experience in community related activities
or a service discipline
? Ability to relate across constituencies
? Administrative, management and community relations skills
? Ability to analyze and problem solve in a flexible manner
? Grant writing experience
? Outstanding communication skills, including group process skills
? Ability to work with minimal supervision
? Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with
students and faculty

Position Description: Direct and provide overall administrative support for
College Misericordia's academic service learning program.  The person
filling this position has responsibility for creating, enhancing and
directing service-learning initiatives for students, faculty, staff, and
community organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

? Provide the framework and guidelines to link service with curricula
? Plan, coordinate and direct the Service Leadership Center to meet its
goals and objectives
? Provide direct supervision to staff assigned to the Center
? Assist in employing, training and evaluating Center staff
? Provide for placement and support of student service learners
? Maintain records, reports, and documentation of Center services and
consistent impact
? Provide for budget and resource allocation for effective program/office
operation
? Assist faculty with utilization of the service-learning pedagogy,
placement and support of service learners
? Provide leadership for college academic and institutional policies that
encourage service-learning.
? Act as a clearinghouse for information on campus concerning community and

JOB SUMMARY: Directs overall operations of the Program; prepares and
oversees budgets and other Program materials; supervises student employees;
recruits and orients faculty to service learning; participates in planning,
fund-raising, evaluations, and community relations.

DUTIES:
