any Canadians?
07 February 2000 22:10 UTC
To the list,
I am the new Placement Specialist for Service Learning at Lethbridge
Community College in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. I've been a
subscriber for just a few months now, and follow the list with interest.
My question: how many of you represent Canadian colleges? I've noticed
a lively exchange on several listservs that I subscribe to, but it seems
most subscribers are American. Service Learning seems to be well
established in the United States, but I'm feeling a little isolated here
north of the 49th and rather like a pioneer. My closest contact with a
working Service Learning office is in Kalispell, Montana. Additionally,
Service Learning is a pilot program here at LCC, in General Studies, in
selected courses only where the instructor is willing to include it as
an option.
What advice would some of you seasoned veterans have to share along the
lines of program set up, ideas for projects in classes that range from
Human Nutrition to Environmental Issues to Sociology to Ethics,
encouraging students and instructors, etc.? I'm all ears!
Please reply to me off-list, vlhegedu@raptor.lethbridgec.ab.ca. Thanks!
Vicki Hegedus
