Illinois Campus Compact for Community Service
Position Description: Executive Director
Basic Responsibilities:
The Illinois Campus Compact Executive Director is responsible for providing
leadership and support to the members of the Compact as they strive to
promote and maintain the values and practical application of student
community service and service learning on each member campus. The
Executive Director acts as a liaison between Campus Compact and each member
institution as well as between member institutions. The Director reports
to the Illinois Campus Compact Board. Travel is required to member
campuses and local, regional and national conferences and meetings.
Illinois Campus Compact is one of 22 state compact networks affiliated with
the national Campus Compact located at Brown University. Campus Compact is
a national membership organization of college and university presidents
committed to helping students develop the values and skills of citizenship
through participation in public and community service. Illinois Campus
Compact member institutions include twenty-three private and public
colleges, universities and community colleges throughout Illinois.
Illinois Campus Compact is committed to enhancing students' sense of
responsibility, citizenship, and awareness of the community while
reinvigorating higher education's concern for improving the quality of life
in our society.
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
o cultivating and promoting long range vision, annual goals and work
plan;
o developing and managing annual budget;
o cultivating, securing and maintaining grants and gifts;
o engaging college presidents in advancing community outreach locally
and
statewide;
o overseeing membership development and all member services, including
annual conferences, site visits to member institutions, and grants
programs;
o creating, evaluating and continuously improving programs;
o representing Illinois Campus Compact's college and university
constituency on a state and national basis;
o serving as a liaison to the national Campus Compact;
o actively developing and maintaining relationships with partnering
organizations;
o hiring and supervising staff;
o providing general oversight of the ongoing operation of Illinois
Campus
Compact.
Qualifications:
o Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred with a
minimum of three years experience in non-profit management and/or
higher
education;
o demonstrated commitment to higher education and at least one of the
following: community service, service learning, student leadership
development and/or community development. Basic familiarity with
national service initiatives;
o excellent administrative and leadership skills in non-profit
management
including: financial management, grant writing and management,
program
development, implementation, and assessment and staff supervision;
o ability to work professionally with a wide variety of
constituencies;
o exceptional oral, written, interpersonal and facilitation skills;
o awareness of state-level governmental advocacy;
o ability to inspire and motivate others for action;
o computer literacy in PC environment;
o flexibility to travel.
