>POSTSECONDARY INSTITUTIONS IN THE YEAR 2000:
>LOOKING BACK-THINKING AHEAD
>
>The Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education (CSSHE) will hold
>its annual conference in Edmonton, Alberta, from
>Friday, May 26 to Sunday, May 28, 2000 in conjunction with the Congress of
>the Social Sciences and Humanities. The year 2000 not only marks the
>beginning of the new millenium but also the Society's thirtieth
>anniversary. The theme chosen for this special annual meeting is: Looking
>Back -Thinking Ahead. We plan to explore historical and future trends
>within the Society, and identify past, present, and future challenges
>facing the governance, structures, funding, and teaching and learning of
>postsecondary education.
>
>The Society is interdisciplinary and values contributions from researchers
>across all disciplines. The conference offers a unique opportunity for
>researchers with a special interest in higher education, administrators,
>policy makers, educators, and graduate students to review significant
>developments in research and to acquaint themselves with the most recent
>Canadian perspectives on universities and other postsecondary institutions.
>
>As of last year, the organizing committee has modified the format of the
>conference to allow for more discussion and exchange amongst participants.
>Time will be dedicated to workshops on subjects related to the theme of the
>conference. The conference will also allow for keynote addresses, paper
>presentations, and panel discussions.
>
>The conference organizing committee welcomes paper, panel, and workshop
>submissions on current research and discussion topics related to Canadian
>postsecondary education and its evolution. Priority will be given to
>proposals related to the theme, but submissions covering other
>postsecondary topics will also be considered. Individuals are invited to
>submit a proposal in any of the three categories listed below.
>
>Research Paper Proposal: Proposals should include: a) a cover letter with
>complete contact information; and b) a paper summary (in 3 copies), not to
>exceed three single-spaced pages. The summary should include the
>objectives, theoretical framework, methods, results, educational and/or
>scientific importance of the study. Since proposals will be peer-reviewed,
>the name(s) of the author(s) should appear only on the cover letter.
>
>Panel Session proposals: A proposal for a panel presentation should involve
>at least three presenters who will provide perspectives on a common theme
>during a 90-minute session. Each contributor should plan for a 20 minute
>period so that adequate time can be allocated to audience participation.
>The submission should consist of: a) a cover letter, with information about
>the participants;
>and b) a 3-5 page, single-spaced proposal (in 3 copies), describing the
>objectives of each contribution, the scientific or educational importance,
>methods, and conclusion.
>
>Workshop proposals: A workshop proposal should pertain to the theme or
>sub-themes of the conference. It should include: a) the name(s) of the
>moderator(s); b) the topic and its relevance to higher education and the
>conference theme; and c) information about how the session will be
>structured. Workshops will be open to a maximum of 25 participants.
>
>The Society invites proposal submissions from researchers in related
