ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SERVICE AND LEARNING
Berea College invites applications and nominations for the position of
Associate Director of Service and Learning. The Associate Director will
provide leadership for and coordinate the activities of Berea's Students
For Appalachia and Bonner Scholars programs, and will assist in developing
Berea's other service programs. The Associate Director will also oversee
diverse summer
service programs, supervise program staff, and communicate with national
program
offices. In addition to these direct responsibilities, the Associate Director
will work with the Director of Service and Learning (position yet to be
funded) to coordinate service programs with the required work program and to
facilitate student, faculty, and administrative initiatives in this
important part of Berea College's campus life.
The successful candidate will have:
* A demonstrated personal commitment to and ongoing involvement in serving
others.
* A demonstrated ability to provide administrative leadership in service and
learning.
* A master's degree in an appropriate study area is required; a doctorate is
preferred.
* Superior communications skills.
* Knowledge of service and leadership literature.
* A commitment to shared governance and administration.
* Evidence of fund-raising skills and previous experience at a small
liberal arts college are highly desirable.
Applicants should submit 1) a letter of application that includes a
statement describing their commitment to the concept and practice of
service and learning; 2) a complete curriculum vitae; and 3) three letters of
recommendation and a list of three additional professional references. Review
of applications will begin on February 15, 1999, and will continue until the
position is filled. The starting date is projected to be June 1, 1999.
