22 December 2001 23:34 UTC
Dear SL Colleagues
Symposium to Prevent Hate Crimes and Violence on Campus
Call for Programs available online at STOPHATE.org until January 15, 2002
When: June 8-11, 2002
Where: Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX
Hate crimes committed on campus present complex and agonizing problems for
colleges and universities. Addressing the issue of hate crimes on campus
requires participation of all campus community members. The Symposium
brings together key administrators, student services professionals, faculty
and students to dialogue and take action on hate crimes and violence issues
on campus.
Workshops, sessions and roundtable discussions at the symposium will focus
on strategies and approaches to better prepare participants to combat hate
from within the higher education community. Speakers and educational
partners will assist with the effort to coordinate an inter/national
strategy to prevent hate behaviors on college campuses. Call for Programs
for educational sessions are available until January 15, 2002 online at
www.stophate.org. All members of the campus community (students, faculty,
staff, community partners) are encouraged to submit a session for the call
for programs.
The symposium is an initiative of the STOP THE HATE! Program which supports
colleges and universities in preventing and combating hate on campus as
well as fostering the development of community. For more information on how
to get involved, please contact the Association of College Unions
