Trying to get a foot in the door!
20 August 1999 10:00 UTC
I apologized in advance if this e-mail has caused any inconvenience to you.
My name is JJ Trotta and I am looking for any advice you can give me with
regards to finding a job in the service-learning/community service field. I
am new to this discussion group. I assume that most of you are in various
administrative positions. Someday, I hope to be in a similar administrative
position. However, I am currently just trying to get my foot in the door.
Along with the advice on finding a job in the field of service-learning, I
was wondering if anyone could help me answer a question.
****How do I get experience working in this field if nobody will give me the
experience in the first place? (Mainly because they are all looking for
people with more experience?)****
I admit that this is a confusing question. I am very confused and I am
looking for some answers.
If you have any comments you can send them to me at: jsquared88@hotmail.com.
Thank you for your time. If there is anyone who is still interested you can
keep reading.
If not, I thank you again for taking the time to read this letter.
Here is some extra information about myself.
I am 24 years old and I just received my Masters in Social Work from Denver
University. I have over 7 years of experience working with youth ages 5 and
up. This experience has mostly been in school settings. I also have 3
years of experience working with the
Alternative Spring Break Service Trip Program at St. John’s University and
the College of St. Benedict in MN.
I have been working with service-learning, community service, and volunteer
programs for a short time compared to most of you. However, I already know
that I love working with youth and that I want to make a difference in their
lives using service-learning and
community service. I am very excited about working in this field and want
to get started right away, therefor you can understand why I am getting
discouraged about the job hunt.
Thank you very much for your time.
