At Broward Community College we offer the Dudley and Beatrice Berson Community
Service Award, a scholarship for students who have demonstrated excellence in
community service in addition to their course work. Award decisions are made
by a commity based on an application and letters of recommendation. I
established the scholarship and have been raising private funds each year. It
is now endowed and has received state matching funds. In addition the the
monetary reward, the students are presented to the Board and receive
recognition plaques and are highlighted in various publications. It is an
excellent way to promote service and those that do it among the college
community.
