COOL, the Campus Outreach Opportunity League, was asked early on to join
the Presidents' Summit and to make a commitment to its longterm objectives.
COOL has committed to enlist 200 college service programs over the next two
years, who will each commit to engage a minimum of 100 secondary school
students as partners in their service efforts throughout the year, thereby
creating 20,000 new service opportunities for America's youth. These 20,000
youth will be partnered with 20,000 college students and together will
complete a minimum of 50 hours of community service during the school year.
This represents 2,000,000 hours of youth service. COOL further commits to
expand the slate of workshos at the COOL National Conference on Students
Community Service to include workshops designed especially for junior high
and high school students engaged in service.
One of our key vehicles for encouraging this kind of expansion will be our
Into the Streets Program. Its exciting to hear that Dartmouth is already
thinking like we are here at COOL. ;-)

>Hello,
> I am the Volunteer Coordinator of Dartmouth Community Services (DCS).
>For our Spring DCS newsletter, we are trying to highlight the recent national
>call to service, initiated by President Clinton in conjunction with the
>national conference being held in one week.
> I am interested in hearing how other schools and service programs are
>responding to Clinton's call to unite around community service. For example,
>here at Dartmouth we have organized a spring "In to the Streets" type event to
>unite all segments of the Dartmouth Community in service to our local area.
> I would appreciate hearing from you as to your program's response.
>Please send all responses to me directly at:
