Service Learning Program Administrator
Program Description: Service Learning is an academic program
which places students in community service work related to their studies.
Students generally perform two to three hours of course-related service
work per week during the semester.The program is staffed by two professional
administrators,
twelve student coordinators, and two student staff managers.
At the current time, more than 100 agencies and schools, 40 faculty,
and 700 students participate in Service Learning each semester. Service
Learning staff work closely with faculty, community agencies, and students
in conducting daily operations and facilitating the collaborations necessary
for program
success.
Job Summary: Assist Program Administrator in the overall
management of the Service Learning Program. Primary duties are the
development and overseeing of relationships with community partner agencies,
management of student staff, and overseeing of training and community placements
for Service
Learners.
Agency (Site) Responsibilities:
1. Establish new relationships with potential sites;
2. Assist with creating appropriate service roles for students
involved in program;
3. Monitor, assess and maintain relationships with collaborating
sites;
4. Work with student staff in addressing site problems
that may arise;
5. Coordinate annual Community-Faculty roundtable event;
6. Process site feedback each semester;
Student Staff Responsibilities:
1. Assist in hiring and training of new staff;
2. Supervise, and assist student coordinators and student
staff managers;
these activities include meeting with
student employees, assisting with problem-solving, advising staff, monitoring
performance;
Service Learner Responsibilities:
1. Assist student staff in handling problems and concerns
of service learners;
2. Oversee coordination of service learner sign-up and
beginner training.
Program Coordination:
1. Assist Program Administrator each semester with planning
agency placement options for Service Learning courses;
2. Establish, coordinate, monitor placements for “Special
Courses” .
General Duties:
1. Provide feedback about Program to Administrator;
2. Participate in regular meetings with management staff;
3. Represent Service Learning Program in the absence of
Administrator.
4. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Supervised by: Program Administrator and Director
of the Institute for Urban Life.
Staff Supervised: Student staff managers, student coordinators.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in humanities,
social science or human service field required. Experience with volunteer
management and/or educational institutions; knowledge of academic service
learning; knowledge of local community agencies preferred.
