To everyone on the Service-Learning List -
Given the growth of many of CSF's discussion groups - and the immense
amount of traffic on them - we are moving to scheduled delivery of
messages on many of the lists at different times of the day and night.
Most are being scheduled for the wee hours of the night/morning to
facilitate the enhanced CPU time of our server.
Our Service-Learning List is one of the big CSF lists - and thus is
affected by this scheduling. Beginning immediately, messages sent
throughout a given day will be collected in a queue (in the order they
arrive) and will be delivered beginning at 4:30am the following morning.
A side-benefit of this arrangement will be that SL List subscribers will
be able to log on and read all their SL mail for the day at one time...
rather than watching it arrive erratically throughout the day. Having
all the messages aggregated together should also facilitate the flow of
ongoing discussions.
Please note that this scheduling will not affect the JSL list (it is
still small enough that it does not need to be scheduled yet).
A final observation is that, to the extent people can keep from sending
personal responses to the entire SL list, this will help free up the
listserver immensely (e.g., the SL list now has roughly 750 subscribers,
and each personal response sent to the list sends out 750 messages over
the listserver). Many thanks.
I hope this helps us all continue the kinds of excellent conversations
which are currently underway on the SL list.
Best wishes to all.
