A friend and colleague is teaching an intercultural
communication course this spring quarter. She would like to
add a service-learning element for her students. We are
looking for some ideas for the student projects. She is
wanting her students to personally have an intercultural
experience or to be able to observe other cultures in order to
enhance their understanding of the communication
difference.
The students have the option of doing an service learning
project or some other type of project. The service experience
will be a individual project and I think, but I am not sure, the
student write a paper with an emphasis on the intercultural
communication and I think there is classroom discussion.
Some of our ideas (and past projects) are tutoring in one of
the inner city schools where the student population is very
diverse, working with the Refugee Center.
Have any you had experience with SL within a Intercultural
Communication class? If so would you please E-mail me.
Thanks.
