Subject: Internet JumpStart CD free from Microsoft
Date: Tuesday, March 12, 1996 7:31PM
Microsoft is giving away a free copy of its Windows NT Server and its
Internet Server to K-12 schools.
This free CD contains all the software needed for a school to setup its own
World Wide Web server site, tools to build home pages, and free browser
software. I believe the school can also buy discounted licenses to use the
server software for their local LAN needs.
This is a great deal! Businesses pay thousands for this stuff. A district
with 20 site could save big money this way. Microsoft has a few thousand of
the CDs and its a while supplies last deal.
Spread the news. Tell the schools you work with about this offer!
Schools need only fill out a form, they can get the form faxed to them and
get info by phoning Microsoft at 1-800-426-9400. Ask about the "JumpStart
CD for Education".
The server software needs to be installed on a PC compatible that is
reasonable fast. It should work nicely on a new PC costing less than $3000.
Requires a computer literate person to set it up (probably best to give
that task to an 8th grader :-).
