I had hoped my comments regarding the generations would
have died the slow agonizing death they required by now.
As far as Bruce's comments go about the many hideous
aspects of our generation - perhaps that is what they
were talking about when the term ME generation was coined -
but I always understood it to be a reflection upon those
of us Marin County types who took to personal growth,
spiritual experimentaion et al. As for that interpetation
of ME generation - I still find those folks quite ethical -
and while some of them are certainly self-absorbed - for the
most part - not harmful. And yes, our folks did do all those
great New Deal things - but in the last 20 years - they've
gone decidedly short sighted. And I guess I'm making the
same characterizations that got me into trouble in the first
place. Yes, there are wonderful older people out there. But
reality say - look at how they vote. And for the most part,
it is socially/economically conservative and not at all
concerned with their grandchildren's ability to have what
they had. So, at the risk of starting this whole argument
again - i'd say - enough's enough. Let's just be glad
there's a remarkable generation out there right now - and give
them as much support as we can - while still trying to
change the system at our end by voting, writing, boycotting,
teaching....
