PROGRAM MANAGER, OFFICE OF VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
THE ILLINI UNION
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Program Manager for
the Office of Volunteer Programs at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign.

The Office of Volunteer Programs recruits and advises students and student
organizations involved in community service. The Program Manager is
responsible for the overall operation of the Office, including serving as a
liaison to campus and community volunteer and social service organizations,
maintaining a clearinghouse of service opportunities, recruiting students
and student organizations to provide community service, organizing volunteer
recognition activities, supervising student employees, and serving as the
staff advisor to Volunteer Illini Projects (VIP) and the Adopt-A-School
program. Together those two programs are responsible for more than 750
student volunteers in more than 25 community placements. The Program
Manager is a member of the Illini Union staff and reports directly to the
Associate Director for Programs.

As an advisor to student volunteers, the Program Manager works closely with
members of Volunteer Illini Projects and Adopt-A-School, providing them with
advice and direction on: recruitment; personnel management; community
service; leadership development; program planning and administration; and on
site events and program coordination. As a liaison to the United Way of
Champaign County and numerous community agencies, the Program Manager
maintains relationships with agency and school staff and volunteers, and
serves on United Way committees and the local Council for Volunteerism. As
a manager of programs and budgets, the Program Manager: maintains complete
records for reference and continuity; maintains financial records, manages
the Office budget, and prepares necessary reports; communicates University
and State policies, evaluations and procedures to the volunteer and paid
student staff; and serves as liaison with other departments and University
units. Frequent weekend and evening hours are required.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (master's degree
preferred), plus two years experience in student activities/development of
community service and possession of a genuine commitment to and
understanding of multiculturalism. Experience in a college union/student
activities is preferred. Ability to relate to and work with diverse
students is essential.

The position is full time and available immediately. Minimum salary is
$23,000 with an excellent benefits package. The position is funded for a
minimum of one year, with continuation subject to availability of further
funding.
