James Madison University is in the heart of the Shenadoah Valley. It has a
growing population of 12,000 students. Harrisonburg has approximately 50,000
residents who primarily work in the poultry industry, agricultural industry,
tourism industry, aging services and education. The university is known for
its progressive educational initiatives, including our present development of
a new General Education Program and the changes with merit pay.

Community Service-Learning is a component of leadership which prepares students
to make decisions based upon moral reasoning, responsibility, and personal
talents while meeting the needs of the community in order to influence
sustainable social change.

Community Service-Learning provides an avenue for students to learn through
action and critical reflective thought by making connections with their talents
and beliefs, knowledge through classroom instruction, purpose and activities
of student organizations, skill development in leadership programs, and
interaction with diverse cultures.

Description:
Learning. Energetic, organized, creative student affairs practitioner to
provide administrative and educational leadership in the creation and
supervision of an extensive service-learning program. Train and supervise
student and graduate staff; market, evaluate and assess programs; coordinate
faculty development and agency training workshops; coordinate immersion
experiences, alternate Spring breaks and other special projects; co-teach
course in Citizen-Leadership; cooperatively initiate and manage leadership
development programs as a member of the Madison Leadership Center staff.
Extensive work with faculty and agency mentors required. Qualifications:
education in related area, preferably in Student Personnel Administration;
teaching and/or experience advising students; excellent organziational and
interpersonal skills; ability to work in a high energy, change-oriented team
environment; commitment to the principles of experiential education;
appreciation for and ability to implement principles associated with student
learning; knowledge of student outcomes assessment practices helpful. Expected
starting range: $25,068 - $30,632. Applications postmarked by July 10 will
