Dear Service-Learning List subscribers,

This is an occasional reminder of some of the listserv commands at your
disposal. Your use of these commands will maximize your use of the list
and benefit everyone else as well.

The commands have been capitalized for emphasis. They need not be
capitalized in your message.

Most Important: All of these commands should be sent to:
************** LISTPROC@csf.colorado.edu

(not to: sl@csf.colorado.edu)

HOW TO FIND SOMEONE ON THE LIST:
If you wish to find someone you think is a subscriber to the list,
send the following message to LISTPROC@csf.colorado.edu:

RECIPIENTS SERVICE-LEARNING or, if you prefer:
REC SERVICE-LEARNING

This will send you back a list of all Service-Learning List subscribers and
their personal email addresses. Then you can use the "search" or "find"
commands in your own emailer to search the list for the person you are
interested in finding.

[Please do *not* send a message to everyone on the list to accomplish this
task. It generates hundreds of "junkmail" messages, adds unnecessarily to
everyone's inbox, detracts from our purpose of enhancing the quality of
discussions about service-learning, and motivates many to unsubscribe
from the list.]

HOW TO POSTPONE:
If you are going to be away and want to postpone messages from
SERVICE-LEARNING, send a message to LISTPROC@csf and in the message type:

SET SERVICE-LEARNING MAIL POSTPONE <== postpones one's mail
SET SERVICE-LEARNING MAIL ACK <== unpostpone one's mail

HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE:
To unsubscribe from SERVICE-LEARNING, please mail LISTPROC the message

UNSUB SERVICE-LEARNING <== two word command

Most common mistakes:
1. Spelling the list name wrong. The correct name is: SERVICE-LEARNING
with a hyphen in the middle.

2. Punctuation marks near the two words, e.g.,
"unsub service-learning" rather than unsub service-learning
>unsub service-learning rather than unsub service-learning
unsub service-learning. rather than unsub service-learning
unsub <service-learning> rather than unsub service-learning

3. Trying to unsubscribe from an (internet) .edu address when your
subscription is registered under a .bitnet address. If you a subscribed
from the latter, please contact me (at: crews@csf.colorado.edu) and I
will be happy to assist you.

To determine the address under which you are subscribed, send to
LISTPROC@csf the RECIPIENTS SERVICE-LEARNING (or REC SERVICE-LEARNING)
request.

If your efforts to unsubscribe (or postpone, etc.) are unsuccessful, please
write to me at: crews@csf.colorado.edu rather than taking your
problem to the list. It is helpful to forward a copy of the mail from
listproc@csf that shows the source of your problem.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR SUBSCRIPTION ADDRESS AFTER YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS HAS CHANGED:
If you know in advance that your address is going to change, unsubscribe
from the list prior to the address change. Once you have a new address,
then subscribe again, as per the directions elsewhere in this message.

If your address has already changed, you will not be able to unsubscribe
your old address from your new one. In this case, please contact me
personally, and I will unsubscribe your old address for you. Once you
have been notified to this effect, please subscribe yourself again from
your new address, as per the directions elsewhere in this message.

HOW TO RECEIVE DIGESTS INSTEAD OF INDIVIDUAL MESSAGES:
If you would like to receive SERVICE-LEARNING messages in batches or
digests several times per week instead of message-by-message, send the
following command to LISTPROC@csf...:

SET SERVICE-LEARNING MAIL DIGEST

If you want to return to message-by-message mail, use the command

SET SERVICE-LEARNING MAIL ACK

If you want to see an index of the logs of past messages and other files
send (to LISTPROC@csf) the command:

INDEX SERVICE-LEARNING

The list of files returned from the index command are retrievable with
the "GET" command. If, for example, you are interested in messages
from April 95, you send a message to LISTPROC@csf and in the body of
the message type:

GET SERVICE-LEARNING APR95

For friends who would like to subscribe, please have them send the
command:

SUB SERVICE-LEARNING Firstname Lastname

REMEMBER: All of these commands should be sent to LISTPROC@csf.colorado.edu

If you need help for any list-related business, please feel free to
contact me and ask for help.

Thank you.
