Service Learning Coordinator

The University of Southern Mississippi is currently in the process of=20
hiring a Service Learning Coordinator for the Office of Community Service=
=20
Learning, which is housed in the Division of Student Affairs.

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Service Learning Coordinator will exercise administrative=20
responsibility for the Office of Community Service Learning (OCSL)=20
through the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of=20
community service programs. The mission of the OCSL is to foster=20
lifelong commitments to community service by promoting a culture of=20
service at USM. To facilitate this mission, the OCSL facilitates three=20
types of programs:

1. Volunteer Clearinghouse: provides students, faculty, staff and=20
community members with opportunities to serve on a =D2walk-in=D3 basis.
2. Co-Curricular: provides consultative assistance to student=20
organizations and/or individuals wishing to develop community service=20
projects. The student group VISION is also housed within the OCSL.
3. Curricular: encourages and supports faculty and staff wishing to make=
=20
service a part of their curricula.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

5%=091. Create and maintain an Advisory Board for the development and=20
implementation of the goals and objectives for the OCSL.

20%=092. Consult and collaborate through informal meetings and=20
workshops with faculty, administrators, students, and community agencies=20
on curriculum design to initiate new service-learning courses and enhance=
=20
existing ones.

10%=093. Coordinate the recruitment, placement, training and=20
supervision of volunteers. This includes the training of Office=20
employees, graduate assistants, and two Americorps members involved with=20
the Campus Link program.

10%=094. Monitor the needs of community agencies and recruit=20
additional placement sites.

10%=095. Develop a system for the evaluation of community service=20
programs, projects, placement sites, and volunteers that ensures and=20
increases the quality of experiences for both servers and clients.

5%=096. Design and implement a campus and community-wide marketing=20
plan that includes conducting workshops and presentations, producing and=20
disseminating brochures and newsletters, maintaining bulletin boards, and=
=20
managing internet modes of outreach such as list-servs and a home page. =20
Develop a public relations campaign to recognize volunteer efforts and=20
program accomplishments.

5%=098. Implement and maintain a comprehensive data base to monitor=20
total number of participants in service programs and provide general=20
statistics regarding these programs.

10%=099. Collaborate with other institutions of learning to form a=20
state wide network that increases communication between supporters of=20
community service and service-learning efforts.

10%=0910. Maintain awareness of current developments within the field=20
of community service and service-learning at the local, regional and=20
national level. Develop literature and instructional resources that=20
pertain to the field and can be utilized by interested faculty, staff and=
=20
students.

15%=0911. Develop a budget and seek additional financial support for=20
the program including grant writing, corporate sponsorship and=20
collaborative efforts with other departments.

Bachelor degree in education, social work, psychology, or related field=20
required, masters preferred. Comprehensive benefits package including=20
