Project name: Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)
Job Title: CDC Technical Assistance Provider

Location: Little Rock, Arkansas
Approximate start date: January 1997

LISC supports 10 non-profit, neighborhood based Community Development
Corporations operating in the Greater Little Rock area. These CDCs have
created over 150 units of housing (apartments and homes) in the last 3 years
with another 200 units in the pipeline, and are responsible for a dramatic
improvement in the quality of life in their target areas.

Assignment description: -------------------------------------
VISTAs work with each of the groups to ensure that they have the resources
needed to complete their projects. Responsibilities include Grantwriting,
Marketing, Public Relations, Strategic Planning and more.

The assignment is in the surprisingly cosmopolitan City of Little Rock. The
cost of living is low enough that even the VISTA "living stipend" provides a
decent standard of living.

Since 1964, VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) has placed
over 100,000 national service workers at agencies throughout
the United States to help find community-based solutions to
the root causes of poverty. Now part of the AmeriCorps program,
VISTA provides its volunteers with a subsistence allowance (slightly
above poverty level),health insurance, and a $4725 education voucher.

This VISTA assignment was distributed through VISTA Link
(http://bcn.boulder.co.us/community/vistalink/), an electronic
recruitment system designed to assist local VISTA Sponsors
attract qualified applicants nationwide. VISTA Link has
been created and is maintained pro-bono by a former VISTA,

the Corporation for National Service and AmeriCorps. Your
