Dr. Barnaby Nygren
Dr. Nygren received his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1999. His current work focuses on the artistic responses to and the problematics of perspective in early fifteenth-century painting. This research relies on a number of approaches, including Lacanian theory, to examine perspective, narrative, iconicity, meaning and humor in early Renaissance art.
At Loyola Dr. Nygren is an assistant professor in the Department of Fine Arts. He teaches the second half of the art history survey as well as courses on Michelangelo, the Baroque and on the Italian and Northern Renaissances. He also teaches the Honors Art History Survey and serves on the Assessment Committee.
